Newark Police Investigate Fatal Crash
On August 29, 2023, tragedy struck the University of Delaware (UD) community when a first-year student was killed in a hit-and-run accident.
According to Newark police, the motorcyclist fled a traffic stop attempted by UD officers just one minute before the deadly crash at around 1:30 p.m.
The speeding motorcyclist struck five pedestrians, killing the UD student and injuring four others.
A 20-year-old male victim is reported in critical condition at Christiana Hospital.
Three victims with non-life-threatening injuries refused medical treatment at the scene.
The motorcyclist, who police have not yet identified, fled the scene and remained at large as of August 30.
The university has identified the victim as a first-year student majoring in business administration.
Classes for the fall semester began the day before the tragedy.
Students and staff are mourning the loss of their classmate and friend.
Newark police are actively investigating the accident and urge anyone with information to come forward.
