A swarm of earthquakes has been hitting western Alaska, with over 1,754 earthquakes with a magnitude of four or above recorded within 186 miles (300 km) of The United. The earthquakes began on April 30, 2024, and have continued to shake the region. The largest earthquake in the swarm was a magnitude 4.8 that struck on May 1, 2024, at 10:23 am.
The earthquakes have caused some minor damage to buildings and infrastructure, but no injuries or deaths have been reported. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is monitoring the situation and has issued a warning that the earthquake activity could continue for several weeks or even months.
